Rock Band Unplugged is een game die draait om muziek en eentje die ook nog eens speciaal ontwikkeld is voor de PlayStation Portable. In tegenstelling tot de grotere broertjes op de PlayStation 3 en Xbox 360 zal Rock Band Unplugged op de PSP niet met instrumenten worden gespeeld. Je vingers zijn de instrumenten!
Rock Band Unplugged wordt natuurlijk niet gespeeld met instrumenten, maar gewoon door knoppen op de PSP in te drukken. Door op het juiste moment de juiste knop in om je score op te laten lopen tot ongekende hoogte. Ondertussen pompt de lekkere muziek via jouw koptelefoon je oren binnen!
Door PSP's op elkaar aan te sluiten via een draadloze verbinding kan je met je vrienden een band vormen. Elke speler zal in dat geval één van de instrumenten uit de band voor zijn rekening nemen. Eén persoon is de leadgitarist, terwijl de andere drums, en bas voor zijn rekening zal moeten nemen.
In Rock Band Unpluggend vind je 41 nummers terug uit de Rock Band bibliotheek, maar ook zijn er negen nummers exclusief voor deze PSP-game toegevoegd aan het spel. De nummers die exclusief voor Rock Band Unplugged zijn, zullen in een later stadium beschikbaar worden gesteld voor alle andere versies van Rock Band. De beschikbare nummers in Rock Band Unplugged omvatten alle genres tussen rock, punk en metal.
